Orthopaedic Residents
An elective rotation for Orthopaedic Surgery Resident physicians
from the University of Minnesota is available with Dr. Dahl.
These physicians have shown a special interest and aptitude for
this area of orthopaedics, spending 6-7 weeks with Dr. Dahl.
Limb Reconstruction Fellowship
The Minnesota Limb Length and Reconstruction Fellowship is a
one year clinical fellowship, under the direction of Mark T.
Dahl, with extensive exposure to the evaluation and care of patients
with limb length inequality, congenital limb deficiencies, growth
plate injuries and deformities, non-unions, mal-unions, segmental
bone defects, osteomyelitis, periarticular and comminuted fractures,
and knee arthritis. Three to four hundred surgical procedures
are performed annually, including: limb lengthening, epiphyseodesis,
hemiepiphyseodesis, closed and open femoral shortening, intramedullary
osteotomies, intramedullary rodding, compression plating, and
external skeletal fixation of fractures, arthrodesis, non-unions,
bone defects, and osteotomy sites. Extensive use of monolateral
and circular external fixation is employed. Orthopaedic surgeons

Limb Reconstruction Tutorials
Orthopaedic surgeons desiring a focused clinical training program
with the Minnesota Limb Length Center can do so in one of three
areas of concentration: Limb Lengthening, Knee Osteotomies, or
Problem Fracture Care. 2-5 day units may be arranged through
