Limb Lengthening

Femoral Lengthening with
Orthofix Limb Reconstruction System

This 5-year old boy a congenitally
short right femur and associated knee angulation. The preoperative x-ray demonstrates his 6 cm leg
length discrepancy. The drawing
on the right illustrates the
preoperative planning process.

An AP and lateral x-ray of the femur, 12 weeks after lengthening, showing excellent new formation and alignment.

Patients are encouraged to keep their joints flexible with home exercises.
On the right you will see an important exercise illustrating maintaining the
knee in an extended position while resting.

The completed lengthening with over correction in varus, which resolves to a straight axis
over time.
