Double Femoral Lengthening

This man sustained a fracture to his distal femoral growth plate at age 7, resulting in shortening and angulation.

The photo was taken three days after surgery. It is through the hinged points on the fixator that the knee deformity is corrected.

The knee was straightened through a corticotomy in the lower femur.

The x-ray on the left shows lengthening through the upper femur simultaneous to straightening. The right shows complete correction.
