Limb
Lengthening
Fibular Hemimelia
The photo shows the typical features of the condition; short,
small leg, outward rotation of the knee and inward rotation of
the foot, and absence of an outer toe. The X-ray shows angulation
of the bone and knee, and the absence of the outer leg bone (fibula),
thus the term "fibular hemimelia". The block under his
foot partially corrects the 7 centimeter leg length difference.

The x-ray on the left was taken the week after surgery. 60 days
after surgery the x-ray on the right shows healthy the new bone
growing in the widening gap.

The photo shows Eric one year after the lengthening, enjoying
excellent function, with the x-ray showing the minor residual
leg length difference.
