Knee Osteotomies

Right Distal Femoral Osteotomy
and Right Proximal Tibial Osteotomy
both with Internal Fixation and Bone Graft

This man sustained fractures of his femurs and tibias in a motorcycle accident. The preoperative bowing deformity resulted in significant pain and stiffness of his knees as well as shortness of his leg.

Demonstrates the adjustment of the alignment in the operating room and the tool used to check the alignment. The right x-ray shows the postoperative alignment.

Illustrates removing a wedge of bone from the femur to straighten it, repairing this with a plate, and adding the wedge of the bone in the tibia, also repairing it with a plate. This way no loss of length occurs, yet the patients limb is appropriately realigned.
