Tibial Varus Osteoarthritis Correction

Tom is a 47 year old man with slowly progressive bowing of his left knee as a result of degenerative arthritis on the inner aspect of the knee. This resulted from an old foot ball injury which damaged his cartilage and ligament. The combination of pain, deformity, and joint laxity required treatment. The x-ray shows how the inner aspect of his left knee is progressively wearing out.

The drawing illustrates the gradual realignment of the leg through a partial corticotomy of the upper tibia.

The photo and x-ray show the leg with fixator in place 2 weeks after surgery.

These show the leg 15 weeks after surgery with complete pain relief.
